Gmail's Security is Mandatory
Gmail has just made it so everyone who didn't set a preference whether they wanted to use HTTPS to connect to their gmail account now is defaulted to use it. This feature is to protect users who are less tech savy and just want to access their email from anywhere.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a combination of the Hypertext Transfer Protocolwith the SSL/TLS protocol to provide encryption and secure identification of the server. HTTPS connections are often used for payment transactions on the World Wide Web and for sensitive transactions in corporate information systems. HTTPS should not be confused with Secure HTTP (S-HTTP) - WikipediaThis Security setting is really of benefit to all users, however there is one problem, HTTPS is sometimes slower than a regular HTTP connection. Many users may change the setting just due to the speed issue, however it shouldn't be significant enough to do so anyways. I suggest keeping it on if you are using a laptop, and if your internet speed is good.
